The Art of Editing: How We Curate Our Scent Collection

As many of you have seen through our recent emails, something exciting is on the horizon: a completely refreshed look for Scent & Psyche, along with some new additions to our collection. Over the next few weeks, I'll be pulling back the curtain on what has been months in the making, and I cannot wait to share it all with you.

But alongside the excitement of what's new, I also want to take a moment to talk about something that might have already caught your attention: the quiet disappearance of a few familiar scents.

Why We Edit

If a favorite fragrance of yours has gone missing from our collection, I want you to know that the decision was not made lightly. Honestly, it's one of the hardest parts of running this brand. There is something deeply personal about the scents people bring into their homes, and I never take it for granted when one of ours becomes part of your everyday ritual.

So why do we do it?

At its heart, editing our collection is about integrity: the ability to offer every scent, in every size, consistently and reliably. When our collection grew beyond 12 or 13 scents, I started to notice the cracks. Maintaining quality and availability across a wide range becomes harder than it sounds, and I'd rather do fewer things exceptionally well than many things just adequately.

When Scents Start to Crowd Each Other

Over the last three to four years, as I've developed new fragrances, I've found that our collection would sometimes drift in a particular direction, becoming too heavy in one scent category, or introducing something new that was, if I'm honest, a little too similar to something we already carried. When a scent doesn't have its own clear reason for being, it doesn't serve you the way it should.

My goal is to make sure that each fragrance in our lineup earns its place. That it brings something distinct, something irreplaceable to the collection.

The Ones That Stay, and the Ones That Go

Since I founded Scent & Psyche five years ago, some fragrances have been here from the very beginning, and others have made shorter appearances tied to a season or a moment in time. As we move forward, I want to protect the strong, enduring favorites that have become staples for so many of you, while also making room for what's next.

Our refined collection will be anchored by nine year-round fragrances and complemented by three seasonal scents, each one chosen with intention.

There are also a few practical realities that factor into these decisions. Occasionally, a supplier discontinues a fragrance oil that's central to one of our blends, which means starting from scratch to re-engineer something worthy of carrying the same spirit. And sometimes, after years of living with a scent, I'll find that a small tweak (amplifying one note, softening another) can transform a good fragrance into a great one.

Thank You for Being Here

I'm grateful for your patience and your trust as we grow and evolve. The changes ahead are ones I'm genuinely proud of, and I believe the collection coming your way reflects the best of what Scent & Psyche has always been: just more focused, more intentional, and more us.

Stay tuned. There's so much more to come.
